The Hunt For Amazing Treasures - Gem Mountain North Carolina

The episode of The Learning Channel's "The Hunt for Amazing Treasures", which aired January 28, 1997, featured the Gem Mountain Gemstone Mine on the Cash and Treasures Show.

This show is about people who have found amazing gemstone treasures in the Western, NC area. Betty Cain of Parkersburg, WV, found a 1,000 ct ruby while fluming at Gem Mountain. Betty was on vacation in Spruce Pine when she found the ruby among her many gemstones.

Charles Buchanan (Gem Mountain owner) gave the crew of TLC a tour of the Brushy Creek Mine, including a mine shot. He also gave a history of gemstone mining in Mitchell County.

The Travel Channel has done 2 specials on Gem Mountain which are still being aired.
